Awards & Scholarships

Cindy Comley Scholarship

The Kentucky Society of Medical Assistant (KSMA) Board of Trustees and the family of Cindy Comley allow you the opportunity to apply for the Cindy Comley, CMA (AAMA) Scholarship.  The recipients of these scholarships will have their registration fee waived or partial waived for the 2026 KSMA State Conference.  We would like to encourage as many KSMA members as possible including students pursuing a medical assisting career to attend our annual meeting in which you can potentially participate on the state level after having observed the KSMA structure and function in the conference setting.  

 

GUIDELINES FOR RECIPIENT SELECTION  

  

1.     Recipient must be in good standing with the KSMA/AAMA (dues paid by 12/31/2025)  

and currently working as a medical assistant, an educator teaching in a medical assistant program, if you are enrolled in an accredited medical assisting program pursuing a medical career (must be an AAMA student member), or a medical assistant who is obtaining an Assessment based Certificate (through the AAMA) Program in Allied Health Education.  

2.     Applicants should be highly motivated and profess a desire to become active on the state level which can include as an officer or committee chair.  

3.     Each applicant must write a short essay explaining why they want to attend the state conference and why they want to learn more about KSMA.  

4.     It will be mandatory that the recipients attend a full schedule of the CEU sessions, the Annual House of Delegates meeting, and all meal functions or forfeit the scholarship.  

       5)  A mentor will be available to answer any questions and serve as your guide through the  

  conference experience.  

       6)  Each recipient must submit a written report of their conference experience within  

            14 days concluding the conference which will be printed in The Forum.  

       7)  The KSMA will pay for two rooms on Friday and Saturday night to the       

             recipients of the 2 full scholarships.  The recipients will be responsible for their own    

             transportation to and from the conference.  

       8)   A scholarship winner can only win the scholarship every 5 years.  The application form  

             can be found on the next page of this guideline sheet or on the KSMA website.  Please  

             send your essay along with a completed application form NO LATER THAN April 1st,  

             2026.

Maxine Williams Scholarship

The Maxine Williams Scholarship Fund provides educational assistance to deserving medical assisting students.  Named after Maxine Williams, the founder of the American Association of Medical Assistants and its first president. The award is provided through the American Association of Medical Assistants.  

Applications are available through the AAMA website.
